Dr. Nikki Jarquin Ed '17

Dr. Nikki Jarquin is a licensed professional school counselor in Montgomery County, MD. Dr. Jarquin is the head of the counseling department at a large public high school where she oversees ten counselors that serve 2,400 students. She was named Montgomery County Public Schools 2021-2022 High School Counselor of the Year. Dr. Jarquin earned her undergraduate degree in 2006 from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and her Masters in counselor education from McDaniel College in 2011. In 2017, she successfully defended her dissertation titled, 'An Investigation of the Effects of a Professional Development on Teacher Efficacy and Cultural Competency in Working with Latino English Language Learners' and earned her Doctor of Education from Johns Hopkins University, School of Education. Dr. Jarquin co-founded PODER educators which works with Hispanic and Latino/a/e educators to promote leadership, advocacy, recruitment and retention.
